Blonde Verses Blonde

Now I know for sure that 2010 is poised to be the greatest year of my life. If there was ever a definite sign it’s this – Amanda Woodward is back! Hike up your skirts Girls! The hottest, bestest be-ahtch (bitch) on TV ever is returning to the small screen and taking on the ultimate bad girl publicist Ella. Yes – as if life could get any better my fav show of all time is back and in such high style. I am simply overcome with emotion. Tonight marks Heather Locklear’s long-awaited return to MP. We can only imagine what her character has been up to these last ten years. Goodness or badness knows. Get those kids to bed, break out the bubbly, and enjoy! XXo, Amy

Mad About Mad Men
Posted on | November 14, 2009 | Comments Off
I’m in love with a man who is not my husband. This affair is keeping me up at night and day dreaming in the afternoon. Don Draper you are killing me softly. Yes the sexiest ad man ever doesn’t really exist, but he has me crazy just the same. Season 3 of Mad Men has been so delicious I am now in the throes of going through Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD and it’s all so fabulous. Betty is just out of her mind if you ask me. Goodness – she doesn’t even know about the affair with her and Don’s daughter’s grammar school teacher. I swear I’d take him back. Don Draper you could make a fool out of this blonde any day….oh that’s right you are as I’ve been a little sleepy this week staying up to the wee hours catching up on this fantastic fantasy. Oh well – time to finish this post and get back to more Season 2…..XXo, Amy
Great Fall Read

It Happens Every Day
Wrap your book club around this one for some real fun my friends. “Happens Every Day….An All Too True Story”, by Isabel Gillies is such an engaging read. It’s the perfect curl up by the fireplace and snuggle in for the evening book.  I guarantee you, it’ll make you want to snuggle up to your own great hubby and just absolutely go off on a rant against the poetry prof bastard who puts our beautiful author and their two adorable sons through the ringer to say the least. As a memoirist Gillies has a fantastic voice that will resonate with every mom. Her dreams, hopes, and cherished moments with her young family are quickly disillusioned when the new hot young female professor at her husband’s college moves in for the kill. Enjoy her heart renching tale of shattered dreams, getting real with life as it is,  and moving on.

Gluten Free Whoopie!
Posted on | October 28, 2009 | 1 Comment
Like so many people these days I’m looking at my kids’ diets and saying help! I feel like we need a nutritional intervention.  One of my children is currently being tested for gluten intolerance. (Gluten is a protein found in wheat for those who don’t know this already.)  So, while we are waiting to find out those results anything labeled GF is certainly peaking my curiosity.  I was amazed to find the gluten free red velvet cupcakes at Honey located in Glen Ellyn, Illinois were honestly the best cupcakes I’ve ever had.  I mean they seriously rocked my world.  Then I went to White Chocolate Grill which has several locations nationwide and noticed that they offer a gluten free menu.  It is great.  Ordering from it led me to order a healthier salad that used grilled chicken instead of batter dipped and fried.  I know … I know … you don’t really have to go gluten free to figure that out.  Anyway, I am intrigued by gluten free now and will be keeping my eyes out for more restaurants with GF offerings.  I’d love to hear from those of you out there who are trying gluten free and/or gluten free/casein free.  Please share your tips/ideas, successes, and other thoughts with us on it.
XXo,
Amy

A Glimpse of Heaven

Who knew the #1 Japanese Tea Garden in North America is located less than a 90-minute drive from Chicago in Rockford, Illinois? As far as I can tell not too many people, but I’m spreading the word here because the Anderson Japanese Tea Garden, www.andersongardens.org, is so exquisitely beautiful I think you might also want to check it out given the opportunity. Last weekend, Boyfriend (aka husband of 12 years) and Boy-Child and Girl-Child and I set out to explore 12 acres of bliss. The gardens are filled with waterfalls, water features, bridges, stones, trees, plants, little Japanese style out-buildings and paths that wind around and around. There is also a wonderfully designed Japanese style building that houses a cute boutique, lovely restaurant, and the visitor’s center. Admission for our family of four was around $20.00. While we drank in the gorgeous scenery, the kids ran around the maze of paths and explored nature ending our family adventure with the most peaceful sound of all – silence.

This has to be the cutest nod to the season I’ve seen. The candy corn on the shirt is made of Swarovski crystals. Reasonably priced at $31.00 these adorable tees are available in sizes 6-12 months thru girl’s size 10. They can be ordered from The Pink Hippo which also sells custom tutu designs at http://pinkhippobows.com

While there may be no such thing as a free lunch in this world, there are at least free cupcakes available today to the first 1,000 lucky people to walk through the doors of Chicago’s uber-hip cupcake boutique more. This Gold Coast  purveyor of cupcake cool is celebrating its first year in business,  and boasts a selection of flavors you won’t find at the corner bakery like artichoke lemon parmesan, truffled white cheddar, and BLT. My personal fav is salted caramel, and I’ve got to say it’s worth every guilty calorie. More is located at One East Delaware Place in Chicago and online at www.morecupcakes.com
Coffee and Pumpkins

I was so excited to see this pumpkin mug available on the shelf at Starbucks the other day. The price is under $10.00. I love pumpkins and I love coffee and putting the two together is enough to make me want to get out of bed and face the early morning rush the kids to school drill. Heck, maybe it’ll enough get me excited enough to smear on some lipstick before we head out the door. Also, it’s Pumpkin Spice latte time at Starbucks which is exciting as well. I recommend getting only one or at the most two pumps of the flavoring though. Otherwise, with the full blown four pumps it’s way too sweet. Here’s to crunchy through the beautiful, multi-colored fall smelling leaves to get an easy Pumpkin Spice latte. Cheers!

Va Va Von Zippers
Posted on | September 7, 2009 | 3 Comments
One of my fav finds over the summer was my Von Zippers. Saddened by the wear and tear surf and sand had taken on my Gucci aviators, I felt loved by the universe once again as my big white Von Zipper sunglasses and I found one another in a terrific little surf store in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Von Zipper tagline of “Looking Good…Feelin Good” is so right on as is the protection these babies offer. The lenses are great, and they don’t look like a wrap-around style but offer a wrap-around level of portection. The gold finish on the hard plastic material they are made of is so rad (yes – these glasses do get me excited about the surf/skate/snowboard culture) it does not wear off even when you wear them in the water like I often do.
Â
The company’s web site is rocking with great music, more awesome styles to love, and details on upcoming surf festivals and the like. Check it out at www.vonzipper.com.   XXo, Amy
